In 2007 Olivier Gillotin cooked pipe tobacco into vanilla and dried fruit for the debut Private Blend — and that formula became a genre. Half the Arab and budget shelves still repackage it. The crack: the original is getting hard to tell from Lattafa, and 'why overpay?' gets louder. The name stayed, the monopoly didn't. A legend because the genre carries its name — even when the bottle carries another.
