Death by Sillage. The trail restaurants asked you to leave outside. Francis Camail piled tuberose and gardenia onto oakmoss in a Rodeo Drive-sized dose. Scratch-and-sniff magazine strips took it across America, and restaurants asked people not to wear it. Avon paid $165 million, P&G $150 million seven years on; the finale — a line item in Revlon's bankruptcy. Taste didn't change: it exhausted everyone by itself. Nobody outgrew it. It simply left no one any air to breathe.
