The Neighborhood Scent. Niche so known the subway names it for you. Grew out of the Santal 26 candle that customers begged to wear on skin: two years, four hundred prototypes, Frank Voelkl. Cardamom that reads like pickle brine, then dry papyrus and sandalwood, old library. Williamsburg, Shoreditch and Marais at once. Same crack: a shelf of dupes and fatigue from a scent everyone wears identically. A legend of a demographic, not a formula: once a scent turns into sociology, "overplayed" is a compliment.
