Every scent says something about you.Tell measures who will speak up about it.

One person hears «expensive,» another hears «hospital.» We show not just what a scent smells like — but who around you will speak up about it, and what they will say.

What is Tell

Who will speak up about your scent.

Tell is one number from 0 to 100. 0 — no one. 100 — everyone, before you say a word.

Neither end is «better.» A high Tell is a statement; a low one is a quiet, precise code for those in the know. It’s not a quality score and not a «like». The number comes from witnesses: what the people around did when someone wore this scent.

It comes down to five simple questions:

Heardwhether it enters first, how much it projects
Divisivewhether the scent splits people: complaints, provocation, “takes getting used to”
Recognizedwhether people place the scent — and how fast
Comparedhow many clones, how «same as everyone»
Fitswhere it fits, and where it's too much
Why it's more than a rating

A rating says «liked.» Tell says why.

whywhy people like it — and why it annoys them
whowho it suits, and on whom it reads «too much»
wherewhere it fits, and where it becomes too much
how comewhy it went mass-market, why it seems expensive, why it resembles others

This isn't a «better / worse» table. It's a map of how a scent lives among people.

Where the number comes from

One score — with a deep engine behind it.

These layers usually live apart, scattered across hundreds of places. We gather them around one question: what the people near the wearer did. That’s why Tell isn’t anyone’s opinion. And that’s why it’s not a toy.

01

The science of scent

Scent works faster than words: memory, emotion, attention, recognizability. First impression, attraction, a sense of cleanliness, status, closeness.

02

Composition and facts

Notes, molecules, allergens, longevity, sillage, seasonality, year, brand, perfumer, history. A separate layer — safety and sensitivity.

03

People and mass perception

Reviews, voices, forums, arguments. What matters isn't single opinions but the recurring signals: «suffocating,» «expensive,» «everyone has it now,» «compliment-getter.»

04

The expert layer

Perfumers, critics, classifications, authoritative databases — so a scent isn't just the sum of random comments.

05

The cultural layer

How many clones, searches, TikTok waves. Some scents become the code of an era or a «too-familiar mark» — Tell captures that.

06

Personal context

One scent reads differently in different circumstances: city, weather, dose, life scenes.

Why the formula stays private

The sources are open. The formula is closed.

We show which data shaped the conclusion, how solid it is, and where there's disagreement. But the exact weights, the calibration, and the protection against gaming and ad pressure stay inside.

That's how strong indexes work: you can see where the conclusion comes from — but the formula doesn't have to be a copy-paste recipe.

Tell and Tell Index

Tell is the score. Tell Index is the independent system around it.

Tell is one number about one question: who will speak up about your scent.
Tell Index is the independent system for reading scents that calculates and explains that number.

Science, composition, allergens, people’s voices, forums, experts, history, culture and your personal context — gathered around one question. Like IMDb: the number enters the language, the system stands behind it.

Around the score, the system gives you a straight answer before you buy:

  • what this scent is
  • how people perceive it
  • what it resembles
  • where it fits
  • where it's overkill
  • what the risk is in its composition
  • what to grab cheaper
  • what to grab rarer
  • what's already a repeat on your shelf
  • how it'll play on you

What a scent says in the world — and what it'll say on you.
